A bit more about JR Ferguson
Intern and Group Fitness Instructor
JR is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all clients, especially those in the trans and nonbinary community. After navigating the fitness and gym culture through his own transition, JR understands the unique challenges that trans and nonbinary individuals may face, and is committed to helping them feel comfortable and empowered in their fitness journey.
He was a competitive athlete in his youth, but stepped away as a young adult to focus on career and transition goals. Five years into transition he wanted to return to athletics, but struggled to find a comfortable space in a corporate gym setting. After some research he found a home at The Experience, and fell in love with weightlifting.
“Exercise has been a fundamental part of my transition, helping to heal my relationship with my body, and learn to appreciate its strength and adaptability separate from dysphoria. The gym can be an intimidating place, uniquely compounded by intersections with a trans identity. My goal is to help others find safety in community, and access fitness in a positive, health-focused way.”
